Club News! Need Co-Admins

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 13, 2008, 7:45 PM
Wisconsin Photography Club

Hello Everyone!!!

Club News!!!!

Okay everyone, life has been hectic busy and I am sorry I have not had much time to be here on the club. I feel terrible about it, I love the concept of this club, but I also know that with the way my schedule is lately, it is going to be challenge to run it by myself and do it properly, so I am putting out the request right now, for anyone interested in being a co-admin, please send me a note.

You would help in submitting to the club gallery, helping promote the club and its guidlines, along with helping come up with new ideas and paths the club will take. I only need one or two co-admins at this time, so feel free to note me. I fear that if I just run this place on my own, it will not get all the attention it needs, plus having an extra pair of hands to help submit to the gallery will help keep this place fresh!

Based on response feedback concerning challenges and votes, I am holding off on posting a new challenge for now and just will leave things open in the club for normal gallery submissions. Also as an FYI, I just renewed the subscription for the club for another month, so enjoy! :)

UPDATE: Welcome New Members!

Club News and Questions for Members

Many club members responded to the past poll What types of Tutorials, Tips and Tricks, News Articles, Features, would you like to see? [link] wanting to know pretty much all the basics and beyond about photography for club tutorials, etc. Well with that said, I did some digging, I figured there had to be a ton of really great photography tutorials out there, so why not do some digging and gather them up for the club to reference first. Then, once everyone has read them, we could discuss questions and comments in our forum or via comment replies to this journal entry.

Here is the direct link to all the really great photographic tutorials I found and fav'd to our club: [link] If you really liked one, feel free to fav or comment the artist who created them for all their hard work and generosity in sharing what they know with us and the world. (Cheesy, I know but it's true! :D)

I will perodically look for more tutorials and fav them as needed, I will notify you via journal entries whenever great and beneficial new tutorials are found.

With that said, club members are also more than welcome to submit tutorials themselves. I am already thinking about the first tutorial I will create for the club. For any tutorials submitted, the club member will submit it through their own gallery, then you can notify our club via a note and we can add it as a club submission, this will probably be the best way to get your tutorials to the rest of the club. Sound good?

So stay tuned, more polls will be coming your way soon since we had such a great response on the last one!!! Muhaha! :D Also as an FYI, I have found that when someone comments on a poll, nothing shows up in my inbox, so I wil be making it a habit to check periodically on our polls, forums, etc for comments, sorry if I was delayed in responding to a poll comment because of not knowing you had posted anything new! lol :giggle:

Also, please remember to all prospective members, to JOIN the club, you HAVE to send a note to the club titled Join, along with place a link to the club somewhere in your journal, via our club stamp or icon. It is the only way we know who our members are, plus you HAVE to be a member to submit work for submissions, etc.

Here is a current list of our members, [link] If you are missing, please let me know via a note or comment and I will add ya! :w00t:

Those not wanting to be members and just want to watch the club gallery for submissions, you are more than welcome to do so, just please remember to fav the artist's direct work, not our club gallery submissions. :D

Please see the following link for details on membership rules and club rules: [link]

Thank you and happy photo hunting Wisconsin!!

Second note, in the last journal I noted that all club members should please send in their votes for the club Wildlife photography challenge, sadly, I only have recieved 2 votes total, everyone, including those who have submitted challenge submissions should vote, I am keeping this contest challenge vote open for a few more days, closing it tomorrow night at 5pm central time. The results will follow via journal posting. The submissions to vote on are down below, please chose your top choice and note me with your selection. Thanks!

Based on response feedback concerning challenges and votes, I am holding off on posting a new challenge for now and just will leave things open in the club for normal gallery submissions.

PLEASE Note the club with your favorite Challenge Submission, title the note as "Wildlife Challenge Vote". One choice and vote only!!! Please try to vote on your favorite submission based upon the challenge rules noted above.

When the club voting is closed, winner will be announced shortly after, winner will be featured in our club journal and will have the winning submission added to our club gallery, which will be featured on our main page until the next challenge is voted upon. Thank you to all who participated! And stay tuned, new poll will be coming for the club to vote on the next challenge.

Wildlife Challenge - Submissions Closed

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 15, 2008, 7:51 PM
Hello Everyone!!!

Wildlife Challenge Contest Extended!!!!

THIS CHALLENGE HAS BEEN EXTENDED! The club is allowing an extension for everyone to get their work in, especially now that the holidays are over and you might have some free time to work on it. Club Challenge Info is below!

Okay everyone, it is that time again!!! So get on your creative thinking caps and start working towards the new Club Challenge Submission!!

You the club member are hearby challenged to come up with some work based on the following theme:

Wildlife

What this means is that you have to take a photo of an animal that is from the wild. It has to be a new photo at that, so no oldies submitted okay? The challenge subject theme also can include Birds, Aquatic, Reptiles, and even Insects, which I consider wildlife, even though DA has a separate category for each of these beyond "wildlife", DA mainly does this to help narrow down searches. But, basically any animal that normally lives in nature and the wild, whether currently wild or in captivity, is an acceptable subject for you to work with.

Preferably it would be nice to see all members challenge themselves and get outside and find wildlife from the state of WI in their actual natural environments, only because this can be quite harder to do and will be a fun challenge for you. But, we will also accept animal photographs from the Zoo, that will NOT be a problem, the only requirement is that it cannot be a domesticated animal, secondly any wildlife you photograph must be alive, no carcass shots, mainly because the hardest part about photographing wildlife is the fact that they move, making you the photographer work harder to get that great shot. See it isn't called a challenge for nothing, right? lol

And most importantly, no snap shots! You must try to come up with the most artistic and visually pleasing photograph you can, so no point and shoot is allowed, try to use some of the tutorials I mention below to help bring your photography to a whole other level! You can do it and try to stay away from the automatic settings. But if you still need to use the automatic settings, then fine, but try to think out your shot, what is the best angle, lines, what tells a pleasing visual story, how are you going to capture the animal's likeness and portray it's personality?

If you need help or have any questions, please let us know!

This challenge will start today, on Memorial Day, Monday May 26th and run for just over a 2 months until Midnight, Wed July 30th. At the end of this challenge, a club journal will be issued for the group to choose their favorites.

That should give you plenty of time to work on some of your work. You can submit up to two pieces of work for this challenge. When ready to submit your challenge work, please just note the link to it to the club with the heading Wildlife Challenge Submission.

Challenge Tip of the Day: For those with limited time on their hands, try taking your camera with you everywhere you go and practice your photography and/or use that time to shoot. Great times to practice or read up on tutorials could be during lunch breaks, before work, even the weekends usually leave most people with spare time on their hands, so use it wisely and try not to wait to the last minute, rushed submissions don't always turn out as you imagined.

Also don't forget, at the end of the challenge, the club will get the chance to vote on the best Wildlife Submission and the winner will get their submission featured in our club gallery and on the front page of the club. Which as we all knows, brings nothing but more exposure to you as the artist! And............most importantly HAVE FUN BEING CREATIVE!!! :w00t:

With that said, at the end of this journal entry, you will find some DA Wildlife Features to inspire you for our Wildlife Challenge. If you notice, all of these photos are some of the best wildlife and animal photography that DA offers, but that doesn't mean that you cannot be just as creative and wonderful with your work. It just takes patience, time and creativity to get a result like this. You can do it!

Club News, Forum, Chat and Polls Active!!!

Hello Everyone!!!

Spring Challenge Submissions

As many of you might now, our first Photography Challenge #1, concept Spring, has finished. Unfortunately we only had two submissions, which I know with the crazy weather we have been having, might have played a part in it. But no worries, for those still wanting to take part in more challenges, a new one is on the way!!

Since there were only two submissions this time around, it probably isn't worth having a club vote on the Challenge Best, so we will hold off on the vote until the next challenge, which is coming soon, so stay tuned!!! :D

Also as an FYI, DA is acting up again tonight, and the new spring submission and even some new gallery submissions not related to the challenge are not showing up properly. Luckily I was able to get the thumbs from watching the club, so here the spring challenge submissions:

**Update: The above DA issues have been resolved and all submissions to the club gallery are now showing.** :w00t:

Club News and Questions for Members

In other news, I would like to take the time to hear some feedback from members on where and what they would like the club to do next. There was also talk about possibly scheduling in person group meetups.

I want to hold off on that right now, until we get more participation in the group challenges and online forums, chatroom and polls, that would lead me to suspect that any group meetups we do will be successful, plus allow time for members to get to know each other first, but if enough people are willing to take part in these, I am willing to start scheduling the first one.

And if distances are too far between members, we can always put a activity list together of what the live group meetup was going to accomplish, for those members to complete on their own. Remember though that any group outings will have strict guidlines, anyone under the age of 18 will have to parental permission to attend and must have parent onsite at all times, this is for safety reasons and no one should feel that this is out of line.

I will do more research concerning DA Meetups that have been done in the past to see what guidelines and suggestions they have in place.

Also remember to watch for the polls, they will dictact locations, attendance and activities for all members, whether via demonstrations, photographic outings, etc.

Also, with the distance in mind, I want to put a personal challenge for all members, feel free to promote the club, especially if it means bringing together local photographers from your area of Wisconsin, this will help in the future for any group get togethers, since they will probably happen in various parts of the state, it will allow members a chance to get involved with their local photography and art communities.

If anyone has any ideas on where they would like to see the club go and ways to promote club growth, both creatively and membership wise, please let us know. After all this is your club and we want everyone to enjoy their membership and time within here.

Finally, I also had the chance to create a stamp for our club, so feel free to use it, you can also use it elsewhere on other websites, as long as you link back to the club, so people know how to find us. :D

I also created a similar avatar for our club, hope you like the theme! :D

Reminder!!! - Photography Challenge 1 ~ Spring

Mon Apr 28, 2008, 4:59 AM
Hello Everyone!

I hope you all have enjoyed the weather as much as I did today. Finally spring is here!

Yayayayayayay!

So with that said, it is time to get out your cameras and try to capture that spring feel. Now this might not be too hard of a challenge to do, if the flowers were out blooming, but as you know, they are not yet, so this is going to make you be creative and look for that shot. I didn't want to make it easy on ya! Can you tell? :giggle:

So the club challenge is for you to find that Spring Feeling! Capture, and send in your club submission. You can submit up to 2 challenge submissions for this challenge and you have until Wednesday, April 30th @ Midnight to turn your work in.

The following week Thursday, May 1st - Wednesday May 7th will be open for club voting on all challenge submissions. So make sure you stay tuned in to the journal, so you know when voting starts and can vote for who you think has done the best at capturing that spring theme and having done so in the most creative and artistic way possible.

The winner of the challenge will see their art featured on the club main page and get lovely kuddos from all club members I am sure! lol :D

Remember the only rules are that it has to have a spring theme, it can be any type of artwork as long as it contains a photograph of some kind, so this means that not only is photography allowed, but also photo manips, etc.

When submitting your artwork to the club for this challenge, make sure you note the following in the heading: "Photography Challenge 1 - Spring", along with a link to your deviation. Since currently this is listed as a free account, I will not be able to use the thumb feature within the journal, so any challenge submissions will be entered into our club gallery, with the challenge heading as a name along with the club members name.

Even if you do not submit a piece to the challenge, you can still vote for the best. If not enough people submit their challenge piece, then we may suspend the voting this round.

I also have another challenge to be scheduled shortly after this one completes that I have been thinking about...so be prepared to be challenged, for after all this is what this club is going to be all about! :w00t:

Any questions or comments concerning this challenge, feel free to post here on this journal and good luck!!!

Happy Photo Hunting to all!
